Firefighter/EMT Connie C. Bornman 01/07/1947 - 05/17/2004 Connie C Bornman joined the Middle River Vol. Ambulance Rescue Company April 7, 2001 with the urging of her youngest son. Along with her husband of over 20 years they soon became a staple in the station together. Over the short career, Connie would take Firefighter 1, EMT-B, EMT-I, and various in-house rescue classes qualifying her to serve as a firefighter/rescueman with the rescue company, the last next obstacle. She had worked past breast cancer and beat it, and was an active Driver and attendant on the medic, achieving the top 10 every month in regards to response ratings. We cannot say enough thanks to all our fellow companies who have called and offered support for all of us during this tragic loss. All of us at station 52, and Connie's family, appreciate all your support and hope you will come out to pay tribute to a wonderful lady, mom, and dedicated member.

JUST ANOTHER DAY FOR CONNIE

I delivered a baby on the ambulance stretcher.
I preformed CPR on a baby who will never wake up.

I hugged a frightened child.
I was kissed by an intoxicated old man.

I held the hand of a teenage girl while she delivered
a 3 pound baby.

I listened to the screams of a trapped accident
victim.

I gently stroked the fragile hand of a 80 year old
woman.
I hesitated at the outreached hand of a 300 pound
prisoner in handcuffs.

I trudged for ten hours in my uniform and boots.
I had a teenager vomit on those same boots.

I rubbed the feverish body of a 14-year-old cancer
patient.
I cradled the ice-cold hand of a child hit by a car.

I was referred to as "an angel of mercy".
I was called every four-letter word in the book.

I always see fear in people's eyes.
I never see joy or relief.

I listened to a tormented voice pleading for the
preservation of life.
I heard the threatening words of one bent on self
destruction.

I spoke with a girl who was hoping she had the flu,
not a pregnancy.
I see innocent people hurt by a drunk driver, and the
drunk driver is never hurt.

I answered the call to rent our hall.
I cleaned and mopped the floor till 4 am.

I talked about fire safety with children at a local
school.
I was horrified at the battered body of a child whose
parents were incapable of love.

I gazed at a horribly burned body.
I shuddered at a cold water drowning.

I see women beaten up by their spouses, but they never
press charges.
I walk into houses and do CPR with family watching
over my shoulder in tears.

I arrive at serious auto accidents, and the first
words I hear are, "Am I going to die?"
I find out hours later they did die.

I listen to the repeated question "Why?", from a
family devastated by death.
I search my soul for the answers to their question.

I came back to do the same day after day, over and
over all for no pay.

This is just another day for Connie.

Folks,

These past days have been days of remorse, understanding, grief, and most of all reflection.  However, always a smile when Connie was around, and  always when thought of.

Our MRVAR family is very dedicated, and I thank you for all of your continued hard work and dedication in these past days. I know Connie looks down and is proud of all of us.

Please continue to stand by each other, hug and support each other.  I could ask no more as a president, or a member.......you all have been wonderful.

Thank You All!!!!!

Joe Davis
